Xiaomi is the number one smartphone manufacturer in China. This company has managed to sell 61 million smartphones last year, and they’re doing pretty well this year as well. Xiaomi doesn’t manufacture only smartphones though, this Chinese company actually dabbles in quite a few areas, including tablets, smart TVs, smart scales… and the company has even unveiled smart shoes yesterday. That being said, Xiaomi has released a number of rather cryptic ‘PK’ teasers in the last couple of days. They’ve shown off parts of their upcoming products in those teasers, and we managed to guess that the new Mi TV is on the way, but instead of introducing Mi TV 3, Xiaomi has announced Mi TV 2S.
Some of the teasers the company released in the last couple of days seemed to be showing off an extremely thin device, so we thought that they plan to announce something else next to the new Mi TV device(s). Well, it seems like Xiaomi has been teasing their smart TV offering all along considering the new Mi TV 2S is actually 9.9mm thin. For comparison’s sake, Xiaomi’s 2014 flagship is 7.8mm thick, which means their new TV is only slightly thinner than their Mi 4 flagship, which is just crazy. Anyhow, the Mi TV 2S is made out of aluminum, and it comes in a range of color options: Gray, Green, Blue, Pink and Gold.
The Mi TV 2S comes in a 48-inch 4K variant, and even its power plug is 30% smaller compared to the last-gen one. Xiaomi’s newest Mi TV offering is fueled by MStar’s 6A928 SoC with four Cortex A17 processor cores running at 1.4GHz, while Mali-T760 MP4 GPU is here for graphics processing. The 10-bit panel can actually decode 4K at 60GHz, and the TV also ships with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The HDMI 2.0a and USB 3.0 ports are also available here, while Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi ac are also on board. Android 5.0 Lollipop comes pre-installed here with Xiaomi’s MIUI skin on top of Google’s OS.
Xiaomi is well-known for the company’s affordable pricing, so, how much does this thing cost? Well, the Mi TV 2S is priced at 2,999 Yuan ($485) in China, which certainly seems like more than a fair price. The Mi TV 2S will be sold in China with content deals from various providers in that Asian country. Xiaomi has partnered up with Youku, BesTV, PPTV and a number more companies.
