Apparently, leaks hint that the upcoming OPPO Watch sequel will come with Snapdragon 4100 chipset. Moreover, the company has decided to stick with the Wear OS for its software department, which it managed brilliantly on the current-gen OPPO Watch.
Well, there are reports that Google’s Android-based OS for smartwatches, the Wear OS is getting some much-needed treatment this year. Samsung is joining hands with Google to bring new health features and user interfaces.
The Wear OS watches are always criticized for their resource-hogging nature. But now, it seems like, with the updated features and UI, the Wear OS software is heading in the right direction.
Fast forward to now, with the new Qualcomm Wear 4100 chipset, OPPO is eyeing to take on the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3. This is because Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 is the only smartwatch currently that uses the Wear 4100 chipset.
According to a report by XDA Developers, the OPPO Watch 2 will also get the Ambiq Apollo 4s coprocessor. OPPO has also officially confirmed the use of the Apollo 4s SoC in their next smartwatch.
The software on the international OPPO Watch 2 model will run on Android 8.1 Oreo
The Chinese variant of the OPPO Watch 2 will not run the Wear OS. Besides, as per the information available, the software on the international OPPO Watch 2 model will be based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Although there are rumors that Motorola is also gearing up for the launch of a new smartwatch, currently, the only competitor for the OPPO Watch 2 will be the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3.
Coming to the design of the upcoming watch, the tipster claims that the Watch 2 will feature the same square design as its predecessor.
As noted by XDA, this piece of information is as per the placeholder files inside the smartwatch’s firmware. Images shared by another tipster add fuel to the fire, as the images show a poster teasing the OPPO Enco Free2 and OPPO Reno 6 series.
The OPPO Watch 2 is expected to come with LTE connectivity via built-in eSIM support.
Further, the OPPO Watch 2 is expected to come in seven models, divided into 42mm and 46mm sizes. The onboard storage is speculated to be 16GB, which is up from 8GB in the previous model. An ECG sensor could also be a part of the watch.
