Reviews: Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook series with 11.6” and 13.3” touch displays



Finally, Computex 2012 is now here and what can you expect besides all the new and exciting hardware news? New gadgets, Acer just announced two new Ultrabooks, two tablets as well as two brand new all-in-one PC that are all running on none other than Microsoft Windows 8.
First up are the new Ultrabooks – Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook series with 11.6” and 13.3” touch displays. There isn’t much information on these Ultrabooks, but in terms of design, they’re said to have displays that can be folded back 180 degrees, allowing the system to lie flat. They are made of 12.5mm thick unibody aluminium with backlit keyboards and will pack a Full HD display. As for the 13” version, it’s said to be designed with a glass lid that is similar to the HP Envy 14 Spectre – yay, more fingerprint magnets and more protectors to buy.
Acer did not mention anything on pricing or availability, but these two new systems will debut Acer’s new Twin Air cooling systems.

If Ultrabooks are not your thing, Acer also unveiled its 11.6” Acer Iconia W700 and 10.1” W510. Packing a large – large for a tablet at least – Full HD touch display that supports up to 10 fingers, the Iconia W700 comes with a battery life of up to 8 hours. It’ll be shipped with a cradle that positions the device at 70 degrees for landscape viewing and at 20 degrees for touch use. Other specs include 3 USB 3.0 ports, Dolby Home Theater, and throw in an optional keyboard, the Iconia W700 is marketed as a desktop replacement.


  
Featuring what Acer calls a “tri-mode”, the Iconia W510 can be used to touch, type and view. Apart from the traditional tablet mode, it’ll also come with a detachable keyboard dock that doubles as a battery pack to give the W510 up to 18hours of battery life in total. Rotate it 295 degrees and it can be used in presentation mode which is excellent for watching videos, browsing the internet or to share PowerPoint presentations.
Finally last but not least, Acer also introduced two new all-in-one desktops – the 27” Aspire 7600U and 23” Aspire 5600U. Not much information is available for these new AIOS but as mentioned before, they’ll be running on none other than Microsoft Windows 8. The 7600U supports up to 64-points touch from all angles and features 0 to 90 degree viewing and swivel at four sides when laid flat so you can share it with more than one user. Measuring at a mere 35mm thin, the sexy 7600U packs Dolby Home Theatre surround system.
  
As for the Aspire 5600U, the thinnest AIO in the market, it features a 30 to 85 degrees tilt for enhanced single-user comfort. As with the 7600U, it also packs a Full HD display and Dolby Home Theatre Surround Sound for an enhanced entertainment experience.
All these devices are not available yet of course, Microsoft has yet to launch its next Windows operating system in another couple of months but all these new gadgets just makes the OS look very promising. Are you excited?
