Not long ago, OnePlus only launched a handful of smartphones in a year. But ever since it entered the mid-range and budget segment with the Nord lineup last year, things have changed drastically. We now see the company launching new phones now and then. Between March to July this year, OnePlus launched six new smartphone models — OnePlus 9, 9 Pro, 9R, Nord CE, Nord N200, and Nord 2. There’s one more in the works now as a new IMEI database entry has revealed.
Tipster Mukul Sharma has discovered an unannounced OnePlus phone with model number NE2210 on the IMEI database recently (via). The entry doesn’t include any other information about the device, not even a name. But the tipster speculates that it could be a new model in the Nord lineup.
The “22” in the model number suggests that it to be a phone for 2022 though. So there’s a possibility that what we are seeing is not a Nord phone but one of the OnePlus 10 series models. If you remember, the OnePlus 9 has the model number LE2110 (codename Lemonade). OnePlus reportedly has no plans to launch a OnePlus 9T or 9T Pro this year. SO the OnePlus 10 series will be its next flagship.
The “NE” at the front of the newly discovered model number could be part of the device’s codename. So things should get a lot clearer once we know the codenames of the next-gen OnePlus devices.
OnePlus has big ambitions with the Nord series
OnePlus has had a highly successful 2021 so far, with the company putting staggering numbers on board when it comes to smartphone sales. It was the fastest-growing smartphone brand globally in the first half of the year, and by far. In the US, OnePlus registered a massive 428 percent YoY (year-on-year) growth in shipments during the first six months of 2021. No other OEM could achieve a 100 percent growth rate in the country, not even Samsung and Apple.
The story is as impressive in Europe as well, where OnePlus’ smartphone shipments grew 304 percent in the first half of 2021, compared to the same period last year. Much of this growth is down to the company’s recent entry into the mid-range and budget segment. It has launched multiple affordable smartphones under the Nord brand over the past year or so. These devices have sold well. In fact, really well, as the numbers clearly tell.
OnePlus is now aiming to sell over 25 million Nord devices by 2023. So you can expect the company to launch more new devices soon. We will let you know if and when more information about this OnePlus NE2210 phone emerges.
