Many of us use Twitter these days. It’s one of the most popular social media networks, and it differentiates from the rest of them. That being said, if you, for some reason, don’t want to use your Twitter account, we’re here to explain to you how to delete it.
You can always simply stop using your Twitter account, you don’t have to delete it. But if you do want to proceed with such an action, it’s really simple to do. We’ll explain how you can do it from your phone (via an official app), and also from a browser on your desktop PC.
How to delete a Twitter account from your personal computer
If you’re on your PC, and have a browser opened, simply log into your Twitter account, if you’re not logged in already. Once you’re in, you’ll see the toolbar on the left side, as shown below.
Tap the last option before a new tweet button, aka the three dots in a circle. From there, choose the ‘Settings and privacy’ option. That will open a new window for you, so that we can proceed.
Once the new window opens, you’ll see six different options, choose the first one aka ‘Your account’. Another window will open with five new items, and you need to choose the last one, the “Deactivate your account” one.
Once you tap the aforementioned options, you’ll get all the necessary information in a new form. Twitter will explain to you what will happen if you deactivate your account, while it will also give you an option to download your data. At the very bottom of that screen, you’ll see the ‘Deactivate’ option, which is highlighted in red font. Tap that and you’re done.
How to delete a Twitter account from a smartphone app
Deleting a Twitter account from the app is extremely similar to doing it from a web browser. Open the app, and tap your profile picture in the top-left corner. In the side menu, you’ll see the ‘Settings and privacy’ option, tap it.
Once the next window opens, you’ll see the ‘Account’ option in it. That is the first option in line, amongst many. Tap that, and you’ll get plenty more options. Towards the bottom of the display, you’ll notice the ‘Deactivate your account’ option.
Once you tap that, you’ll basically get the same information as you would on a desktop. And once again, the last option in line will be the ‘Deactivate’ option.
One thing to note is that you’ll be able to reactivate your account within 30 days from deactivation. If you change your mind for whatever reason, you’ll be able to do it. If over 30 days pass, you’ll lose your Twitter handle, account, and everything regarding it… for good.
