Some PS5 Owners Are Getting Invites To Buy Another Console

In a surprising turn of events Sony is sending out invites to some PS5 owners to buy another PS5. The invites are being sent out to members of PlayStation Direct who have an active PSN account. Though, worth mentioning is that Sony is also likely sending these PS5 purchase invites to people who don’t already own one.

Typically, buying a PS5 through Sony has been done one way since the console’s launch. You’d have to wait for Sony to get stock, then you’d have to jump in a PlayStation Direct queue and hope to be one of the randomly selected individuals who were allowed to buy one before the stock was depleted.

Compared to many of the other retailers, this was a more fair way of doing things. As it more or less hindered any successful possibility for scalpers using bot programs to buy up the console en masse. But, with these invites you seemingly don’t even have to wait in a queue.

Sony PS5 invites apparently let you bypass the queue completely

If you’re lucky enough to get one of these invites, there’s a major benefit to buying this way. You don’t have to wait in a queue, according to Twitter user Wario64. If accurate, that means if you do get an invite you’re guaranteed the opportunity to buy one.

Waiting in the queue is a crap shoot. As you may get placed early enough in line to get into the store. And you may not. Even then though, you only have a certain amount of time to place the order. Lest you lose out to other consumers who hit the “place order” button before you.

Unfortunately, it seems that the queue was set to open up on June 23 at around 2PM Pacific. So the time to buy, at least for this round of invites that were sent out, is over.

Don’t click your link before the start time

While the buy window now seems to be over for this series of surprise invites, Sony could end up sending out more. If it chooses to do so, the one thing you want to keep in mind above all else is that you should not click your link before the start time.

If you end up getting one of these emails, it will have a direct link to the console on the PlayStation Direct store that is unique to you. Sony also clearly states that you shouldn’t click the “shop now” button before the start time. Which would be listed in the email.

Doing so could result in you being blocked from making your purchase.

even though I already have a PS5, Sony just sent me an invite to purchase a console on PS Direct on Wednesday. Which means expect a public queue at around 2 PM PT on June 23rd.
