Sony has just snapped up one, potentially two, new developers, with the official announcement that Returnal developer Housemarque is joining PlayStation Studios. The news was shared by PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst, who tweeted the announcement out to followers. That tweet included an image that contained both the PlayStation Studios and Housemarque logos.
Not long after the announcement, PlayStation Japan sent out a congratulatory tweet welcoming Housemarque to the team. But instead of using the promotional image that accompanied Hulst’s post, it seems that an image was shared that contained the logo for Bluepoint Games. The developer behind the recently released Demon’s Souls remake for PS5.
So, it seems that Sony is also acquiring Bluepoint. Though it has not made any official announcements on the acquisition at this time.
Thrilled to announce @Housemarque has officially joined PlayStation Studios! The extremely talented studio with a proven track record and best-in-class gameplay has a bright future and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of it! pic.twitter.com/B47YlfmgCs

Housemarque is a big get for PlayStation Studios
Sony may not be making purchases that are at the scale of Zenimax, but Housemarque is by no means a small acquisition. On the contrary, Housemarque joining the team is a big get for the PlayStation Studios team. Returnal has been a popular title for the PS5 and a major hit with most players.
Hulst speaks very highly of the developer too. Stating that “Housemarque’s recent release of Returnal proves the studio is one with incredible vision, capable of creating memorable new games that resonate with our community.”
The Bluepoint acquisition announcement is surely coming
Mistakenly shared or not, Bluepoint does seem to be joining the PlayStation Studios team as well. An official announcement is likely on the way soon, since a promotional image for the announcement has already been made so it was ready to share at a moment’s notice.
The PlayStation Japan tweet has since been deleted, but user Nibel on Twitter was able to capture a screenshot of the deleted tweet. As well as the image that was originally shared within it.
..so apparently PlayStation Japan uploaded the wrong image with their first tweet on Housemarque’s acquisition, and it actually mentions a Bluepoint acquisition pic.twitter.com/yQBHtLbG5c
