The Galaxy Buds 2 are Samsung’s next pair of truly wireless (TWS) earbuds. The Korean firm will unveil the new buds sometime in August, possibly on August 11. But ahead of the official launch, we have some information regarding its pricing.
According to 91Mobiles, the Galaxy Buds 2 will cost anywhere between $149 and $169 at launch. This pricing means Samsung is aiming to pitch it as an upgraded variant of the Galaxy Buds+, which debuted at $149 early last year. Now selling for under $100, Samsung might discontinue the Buds+ once the Buds 2 arrive in the market.
But most importantly, that pricing will pit the new Galaxy earbuds directly against Apple’s newly-launched Beats Studio Buds. Those buds are priced similarly and offer active noise cancellation (ANC), up to 24 hours of battery life (with case), and an IPX4 dust and water resistance rating. Most notably, Beats has significantly improved Android compatibility with its latest pair o TWS earbuds.
The company has gone to great lengths by not using a custom Apple chip for the sake of Android-specific features. Clearly, it is aiming to eat into Samsung’s (and others) share in the TWS market. The Korean firm has its task cut out to try and fend off that attempt.
It might be difficult for Samsung to do so though. The Galaxy Buds 2 are said to lack ANC support, something that might be a dealbreaker for many, especially if the devices cost around $150. Many other TWS buds in that price range offer ANC. The new Galaxy buds might include passive noise cancellation though.
Galaxy Buds 2 specs and features
The Galaxy Buds 2 have been in the news for a couple of months now. Multiple leaks, rumors, and certification listings have given us a fair amount of idea on what to expect from Samsung’s upcoming TWS earbuds.
The devices will pack a 60mAh battery in each bud, with a 500mAh battery in the charging case. That should make for a decent playtime on a single charge. Bluetooth 5.0, AKG-tuned audio, wear detection, capacitive touch controls, and fast charging support over USB Type-C are some of the rumored features. The new buds will reportedly be available in White, Black, Purple, and Green color options.
As said earlier, the Galaxy Buds 2 might launch on August 11, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 foldables. The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch Active 4 will also arrive during the same virtual event. It will be interesting to see if Samsung has any surprises up its sleeves.
