Google Assistant Now Responds With Larger Text On Android

A new update to the Google app on Android is changing the way your conversations with Google Assistant look. As spotted by 9to5Google, text replies from the Assistant are now more legible, thanks to larger fonts.

Google Assistant usually responds with text, cards, or web results for our queries. It uses a speech bubbles-type UI for conversations, not very dissimilar to a conversation thread on a messaging app. However, that’s changing with the latest update for the Google app.

For text replies, Google Assistant no longer uses that speech bubbles UI. Instead, it’s plain text in larger and bold fonts. This makes it easier to read the response, which is particularly helpful for people who prefer reading rather than hearing Assistant or are hard of hearing. Moreover, the screen also highlights the ongoing conversation. Old responses are minimized and grayed out. These changes not only improve the legibility but also make the Assistant interface cleaner.

Unfortunately, Google seemingly hasn’t applied this change throughout the Assistant. Replies that involve cards, like the weather or controlling smart devices, still feature smaller fonts. The font size is unchanged for web results as well. Hopefully, Google will make the updated UI consistent across the Assistant soon. As of now, it appears only when you make casual conversations with Google Assistant, such as commands like “tell me a joke” or some random questions like “how tall is the Eiffel Tower?”

Google Assistant is getting a UI change on Android

Google regularly makes changes to Assistant, improving the overall experience for users. Over the years, it has picked up the ability to read webpages, make continue conversations, reply silently, and much more. It may soon gain the ability to turn off your Android smartphone as well.

Google last year said that over 500 million people use Google Assistant in their daily lives. The company is now making it easier for them to read the Assistant’s replies with the latest UI change.

The revamped Assistant UI is rolling out with the latest version of the Google app on Android. It started appearing for some users earlier this week and is gradually making its way into more devices. If you aren’t seeing the new Google Assistant UI on your Android smartphone yet, you might want to check for an update for the Google app on the Play Store. If there’s no update available, do not worry. It will show up soon.
