Google Pixel 6 Camera Features Tipped: Custom NPU, ISP & More

The Google Pixel 6 handsets are coming, and some camera features just surfaced. This information comes from ‘Tron’, a tipster, though take it with a grain of salt.

In a tweet, the source mentioned that the Google Pixel 6 will feature a Gimbal-like steady camera mode. He refers to both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in this tweet, by the way.

In addition to that, he mentioned that a big Samsung sensor will be used, for the phone’s main camera. On top of that, a custom NPU (Neural Processing Unit) and ISP (Image Signal Processor) will be included, implemented by Google.

On top of all that, “big improvements in video” have been noted as well. Google seems to be looking to improve the camera performance of its smartphones quite a bit.

Just to be clear, one of the main selling points of the Pixel smartphones is camera performance. The company’s devices had excellent camera performance in years, but have been using the same main camera sensor since the Pixel 2.

Google is seemingly looking to change that with the Pixel 6. The company will utilize a new main camera sensor here, with NPU and ISP, not to mention improved software. All that should result in even better camera quality.

The Pixel 4a, 4a 5G, and 5 were still able to keep up with the competition, even with such a dated sensor. That makes us pretty excited to see what will Google do with a new camera sensor.

The Pixel 6 series is expected to arrive in September or October

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are expected to arrive later this year, probably in September or October. Both of those phones will be positioned as Google’s flagship smartphones, though the ‘Pro’ model will be more prominent in that regard.
