Mountains are a lot of fun to hike and to climb, but they’re a pain in the butt to live on. Rocky, uneven, tilted, unpleasant… the view is great, but that’s about the only benefit. So, human ingenuity being what it is, somebody has worked out a way to improve the view while at the same time giving you a lot more space and comfort.
Fly Away
The Skylodge is what it sounds like; it’s a lodge mounted on the side of a mountain. Constructed in Peru, above the Sacred Valley, the lodge is built out of aluminum and polycarbonate, so it’s light, but very, very strong.
How strong? Well, there are three suites, 24′ by 8′, so you’ve got plenty of space for you, your family and more than a few people if you want to have a part. Granted, it’s not easy to get to: You’ll either need to take a zipline to get there, or climb the mountain in question to actually get there. But hey, that’s the price you pay for an excellent view.
Lodged In
Tents are cheap, but this is a lot more fun. True, it’s also pricey, although not for the lodgings themselves. Those work out to about $300 a night; it’s just that you’ve got to get there, which may not be cheap. But if you’re the adventurous type, and you want to wake up to an enormously beautiful view, it’ll be worth it.
