Sony Could Launch The Xperia Z5 Lineup In September

The whole mobile market seems to be changing strategies as competition is getting tougher, while Sony was one of the first companies that released two flagship phones in one year, often questioning this move as there aren’t many significant improvements that can be achieved in a 6-month period. While this is not entirely confirmed, Sony has just released a new phone that is considered an improvement in some areas that are not very noticeable respect to its predecessor, but even its name retains the same number of the previous phone with only one symbol to distinguish the two as it is known as Xperia Z3+ in some markets and Xperia Z4 in Japan, even though the two phones are the same.

While the new phone competes in a better way with the rest of the recently released flagships, it seems obvious that Sony won’t stop there and now there are new rumors about what the company could bring in the second half of the year. The new flagship will apparently be called Xperia Z5 and its official announcement is expected around the month of September. The overall design of the hardware won’t receive major changes, as the OmniBalance design is reportedly coming back once again, but this time it will include a fingerprint scanner, despite the fact that the Xperia Z lineup has never had a physical Home button. Other specs include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB of RAM, the main camera will be upgraded with the new IMX230 sensor, which keeps the megapixel count the same as in recent phones at 21-megapixels, but it features phase detection technology and 192 autofocus points. Last but not least, the battery capacity could be significantly increased to 4,500mAh, which represents a serious engineering effort if they want to keep a similar thickness as in their recent phones.

Along with this phone, the company could also introduce the Xperia Z5 Compact, which typically shares a lot of specs as the flagship and its latest iteration was introduced on last September so it definitely makes sense. Another rumored phone that would be announced around that date is the Xperia Z5 Ultra, a phone with a huge screen which has only had one version and it was released 2 years ago, but some users might see the benefit of having a screen with more real estate and the specs could also be similar as the ones in the flagship. Anyway, this lineup seems to be able to compete with other companies in every segment, so it could be a good move from Sony.
