Premium LG G Pro 3 Specifications Surface Yet Again

We have recently covered the rumor that LG are revisiting the G Pro range of devices after seemingly dropping the product from their portfolio earlier this year by not following up the G Pro 2 (shown above) with a third generation of the large-screened device: instead, this year LG have concentrated their efforts into the release of the successful LG G4. However, earlier this weekend we saw a rumor that said LG were preparing a new G Pro device and this model, the third iteration, would have some impressive specifications. However, I do need to reiterate that these are rumors and the device may or may not see the light of day. Chinese leaker @Leaksfly has reported that the LG G Pro 3 will be based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, backed up with 4 GB of RAM for smooth multitasking. It will feature 32 GB of internal storage plus a MicroSD card for additional space. The screen will be a 6.0-inch, QHD (quad high definition, 1440p, which is 1,440 by 2,560 pixels) resolution panel giving a pixel per inch density of 490. There’s a 20.7MP rear camera and an 8MP front facing camera for selfies and video calling. We are expecting the device to come with Android 5.1 Lollipop, a fingerprint scanner and pupil recognition. All this technology will have a rather steep price attached to it at $800.

This specification is very much as expected should a manufacturer wish to release a phablet in the coming months, from the screen resolution to the System-on-Chip, or SoC, powering the device. At the time of writing, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 is not yet ready for commercial devices but is due later in the year. The Snapdragon 820 is going to be Qualcomm’s first SoC based around their new custom application processor core, called Kyro. Kyro sees Qualcomm returning to familiar ground as until very recently, the Snapdragon processors used Qualcomm’s own custom application core, called Krait, which the American semiconductor designer had fine tuned to fit their chipset. With the introduction of 64-bit ARM architecture, Qualcomm adopted ARM’s reference core designs (the Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57, plus the newer Cortex-A72) to use in their Snapdragon processors. Whilst the Snapdragon 810 is a high performance SoC, it also runs warm and one of the reasons for this is considered to be because Qualcomm have not fine tuned the application core design.

Looking forwards to the LG G Pro 3, we would hope that the new device is likely to arrive in time to challenge the hoped-for next generation Galaxy Note 5 and as such may be with us at some point in the fall. This is a developing story and as soon as we receive any additional information, we will let you know.
