Rumor: Galaxy Note 5 Transparent Case Designs Appear

Samsung have two flagship lines, released at opposite ends of the calendar. Early in the year, they release their latest generation Samsung Galaxy S device and earlier in 2015, we saw the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge released. The S6 has relatively recently been joined by the Galaxy S6 Active, a toughened version. And in a few months we are expecting Samsung to announce and release the next iteration in their other flagship line of devices, the Samsung Galaxy Note family. The next Note is expected to be the Galaxy Note 5 and if it follows the convention, will be a larger device compared with the flagship Galaxy S handset and contain enhanced specification. With the Galaxy S handset being released before summer and the Note being released into the fall, as you might expect there are plenty of rumors and speculation doing the rounds detailing the device that we may see Samsung release later this year. These rumors include stories of the size of the device and the screen, where it’s believed the Note 5 will be built around a 5.9-inch, QHD (quad high definition, or 1440p, or 1,440 by 2,560 pixels) AMOLED panel of some description. This is 0.2-inch larger than the current Note 4’s AMOLED panel but the same resolution. We may also see a curved display similar to the Note Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Today’s story, derived from a Tweet from @OnLeaks, shows several images of alleged Galaxy Note 5 transparent cases and a couple contain renders of what the next Note might look like. The transparent cases show a large camera / sensor hole in the back, which we are supposing is for the camera, flash module and heart rate sensor. There are also four cut outs at the bottom of the case, which can be accounted for by the S Pen silo, speaker, charger port and headphone port. It appears that Samsung are using some design language carried over from the current generation Note, the Note 4, with the power / lock button on the right hand side the volume keys on the left.

The transparent case design does not include a curved edge, although this does not mean that Samsung are not working on a new Note Edge product: it could simply mean that the case manufacturer has not released a design yet. The Note Edge was a limited production run and the Galaxy S6 Edge is more expensive than the ordinary S6 as it’s more expensive to manufacture. We will likely need to wait until October before we know for certain what Samsung’s plans are for a curved screen with the Note 5!
