Once upon a time Zopo reigned in the top tier of Chinese smartphone manufacturers, but over the years as the market has changed their presence has shrunk a bit. This seems to be mainly because the market as a whole has shifted towards cheaper phones that are mainly “good enough” because their price tag is so low. So instead of fighting against this trend Zopo is now working on a range of new phones which it has dubbed Color C and Color E. Both of these new series of phones are planned to be mid-range devices with aggressive pricing according to rumors, and today Zopo is teasing something else to go along with the handsets as well.
Android Lollipop will come shipped with the Color C and Color E series of phones, which is a refreshing breath of air in a market where most phones still ship with the year and a half old Android 4.4 KitKat. Zopo’s Color phones will ship in an assortment of colors as the name might suggest, and will feature interchangeable back plates much like we’ve seen on the Mlais M52. It’s going to be difficult to get more colorful than the Zopo ZP920 Magic, pictured above, but Zopo is promising to deliver here. The goal of the Color series of phones is to try to appeal to a younger audience by both offering more affordable phones and ones with more interesting designs.
We’re not sure of the exact differences between the Color C and Color E phones yet but they both look to be powered by one of MediaTek’s finest, the Quad-core 64-bit 1.5GHz MT6735 processor. That sports a Mali-T720 which is geared towards handling basically anything you can throw at it. One of the biggest selling points is going to be the Category 4 LTE modem inside of the phone which is set to support all worldwide bands. This is yet another breath of fresh air in a market of Chinese phones that often only support LTE bands exclusive to China, while others around the world that use the phone are stuck with 3G. We’re also looking at an HD display and a 13-megapixel camera which are all pretty standard at this price range. Those looking for a higher-end phone can check out Zopo’s ZP999 Lion Heart, which we’ve actually got on a phenomenal sale for our readers from Gear Best.
