The Latest Pixel Feature Drop Brings Pride Month Wallpapers, Locked Folder & More!

Along with the monthly security update that is starting to roll out today, Google is also rolling out the latest Pixel Feature Drop, and it’s a pretty big one actually.

While this Pixel Feature Drop for June is not jam-packed with a lot of huge features, there are quite a few smaller ones. Which is really impressive. Including a number of features that were announced at Google I/O last month.

So when your Pixel gets that update notification, it’s not just another security update. It’s a whole lot more.

What’s new in this Pixel Feature Drop

So here’s what’s new in this latest Pixel Feature Drop. Firstly, the Google Photos Locked Folder feature that was announced at Google I/O last month, is coming to Pixel smartphones. As mentioned at I/O, it is available on Google Pixel smartphones first and will later come to other smartphones this fall. This is a passcode-protected folder that allows users to keep photos private, when they hand their phone to someone else. Though it’s important to note that this content is not backed up to the cloud.

There’s more in this update though. Google is introducing Astrolapse, which allows you to take time-lapses of the night sky without any advanced or expensive hardware. Just your Pixel smartphone, which is really incredible.

Gboard is also getting an update here, as it will now make smart suggestions when copying and pasting from Clips. Which is going to provide more convenience to users as they are copying text.

Digital Wellbeing is reminding pedestrians to stay alert when looking at their screen while they are walking. So that they won’t get hit by a car. You won’t believe how often this happens, actually.

Finally, to celebrate Pride Month, Google is also adding new Pride-themed wallpapers and ringtones. So you can show your support for the LGBTQ+ community, a whole lot easier.
