Twitter Talks About The Possibility Of New Apps And Native Twitter Video Features At Analyst Day

Twitter-for-Android

Earlier we talked about Twitter’s plans for website growth and how they would execute those plans, which involves them upping their SEO efforts most likely, but also trying to better their standings in the Google Search engine rankings. This was all covered by Twitter at their Analyst Day conference in San Francisco where they also went over ideas for possible new stand alone apps and adding video capabilities into Twitter itself. Among the adding of native video editing and capture features within Twitter, they also covered the possibility of adding some new features to Direct Messages. Normally when you retweet something to someone, it’s public and available for all to see. What it sounds like Twitter wants to do is make it possible for people to have private conversations about a specific tweet by retweeting it all within a direct message. Now that would be nice.

As far as video capabilities go, you can already add videos into Tweets but it isn’t part of the app in any native format. Videos have to be added in from an outside source, like Vine for example. Twitter looks to be expanding on the capability to add in videos whether they be newly captured, or existing videos that one might want to edit, and add them to tweets all from within the Twitter app itself. This could certainly help Twitter up their user growth as it would make for less that a person would have to do to share videos via the social platform, it’s all about consolidation.

Twitter didn’t mention any specific details on what kinds of apps outside of Twitter they may be looking to develop, or if they’re currently working on anything at the moment, but just like their strategy to up Google Search rankings and add in new features to the Twitter app itself, it’s all part of the plan to expand the Twitter ecosystem and keep users engaged in new ways. They want to make things easier for new users too of course, and to do this they are going to making it faster and simpler to sign up for a Twitter account by removing unneeded steps, as well help to lay out an explanation for why Twitter might be a useful platform for one to engage with and participate in. Personally, I have just barely started to engage with Twitter a mere 6 months ago, where as many people have been using the social platform regularly for years. These new changes though could certainly help to keep my engagement and even make it grow, which sounds like the exact result Twitter will be looking for from many users and newcomers when they implement these changes.
