Pioneer K68W Is Now On Sale Via Suning In China For 1290 Yuan ($211)

Pioneer is one of those brands that don’t exactly pop in your head first when you think about smartphones, tablets or anything of the sort. This Japanese company is known for many products, perhaps their most recognizable products are stereo systems and audio products in general, but the company also dabbles in smartphones. The company announced a mid-range K88L smartphone back in September, this handset sports a 5.5-inch 72op display along with 1GB of RAM and MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core chip. The device looks just fine, but I’m more than positive Huawei overpriced that thing. Either way, another one of Pioneer’s handset is now on sale via Suning in China. This Chinese retailer is offering the device for 1290 Yuan ($211), let’s see what the handset itself can offer.

K68W features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720, 267ppi) IPS display along with 1GB of RAM for your multitasking needs and 8GB of in-built storage (expandable via MicroSD up to 32GB). This handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, On the back of the device you’ll find a 13-megapixel snapper while there’s a 5-megapixel camera located on the front side of the device. This is a 3G device, no LTE here, and the device ships with Android 4.4.2 out of the box with Pioneer’s skin on top of it. This handset measures 150,00 x 76,90 x 8,30mm.

This handset is actually rather similar to the K88L if we look at the specifications. Both of these handsets run MT6592 chips, sport 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage and even have the same screen size, resolution and cameras. Pioneer K88L, unlike K68W, sports 4G LTE connectivity though and the devices look different. K68W ships with on-screen buttons while the K88L has capacitive buttons below the screen. As I already mentioned, you can get the K68W from Suning in China for 1290 Yuan ($211), which is a bit steep if you ask me, but it’s at least below the price of flagships in China. I’d always suggest adding a $100 more if possible and getting one of China’s flagship devices instead of this, but if you’re unable to do so, consider the Pioneer K68W.
