Gionee Marathon M3 is a mid-range handset we’ve talked to you about a couple of days ago when the company unveiled it. This mid-ranger actually packs a huge battery life on the inside, you get a 5,000mAh unit with this device which should provide plenty of juice throughout the day. We’re here to let our Indian readers know that the handset has been listed on Gionee’s India website along with the price of the device, it will retail for INR 12,999 ($212). If you’re in a market for a mid-range device with a huge battery on the inside, this might be the device for you. Anyhow, let’s see what Gionee Marathon M3 offers except for the battery.

This phone sports a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display along with 1GB of DDR3 RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage (you can expand it via MicroSD card up to 128GB). The handset is powered by MediaTek’s quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU which is clocked at 1.3GHz and ships with Mali 450 GPU for graphics rendering. The device ships with an 8-megapixel rear-facing and a 2-megapixel front-facing cameras. Android 4.4 KitKat is also here out of the box and this is a 3G HSPA+ device, so no 4G LTE connectivity is available. Talking about connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n are also included. Marathon M3 also includes a bunch of software features like “Face Unlock”, Smart Gesture”, “Game Zone” and some camera features like “Eraser” and “Face Detection”. This handset is 10.4mm thick while it weighs 180.29 grams. Gionee says that the 5000 battery will offer 33.7 hours of talk time and a whopping 3.8 days on standby.

It’s nice to see handsets packing such huge batteries, that’s really rare these days. Most manufacturers are more focused on making razor thin smartphones and pay no attention to the battery size they’re including in those units. I’d like to see more manufacturers produce high-end smartphone with such batteries on the inside, I don’t even mind the 10mm thickness, it’s not that thick to be quite honest, at least not to me. Where do you stand on this, would you like a bigger battery in your smartphone even though it would be somewhat thicker and heavier because of it?
