As we near the probable launch of Android L and the next Nexus tablet and phone, we’re starting to see more Material Design themed apps make it into the Play Store or update their already existing apps UI to better evoke the Material Design style. One that we want to bring attention to is an app called Weather Timeline, because hey everyone needs the weather forecast at some point or another and why not have a weather app that brings some fresh new style to the mix?
There are undoubtedly many great weather apps out there, some of which have had their apps available for years, and you can even get your simple weather needs from Google Now or have them displayed through widgets like Zooper Pro. With both those apps though there is at least some other information floating around that have nothing to with weather, where as Weather Timeline is simply a forecast app to give you the weather conditions for the next few hours or the entire next week.
Everything gets displayed in an easy to digest timeline format so you can basically scroll through and see the weather for your local area or where ever you wish to check right down to the hour. There’s no lush 3D effects and eye popping visuals, which actually makes looking for the desired information feel less distracting and more streamlined. There is still some cool visual flare though, as you’ll see that the timeline displays big plashes of color to correspond with what the weather conditions are like. You’ll also see some small animations on things like the white icons that depict the weather condition, and my personal favorite is the loading menu you see when you open up the integrated calendar and select a new date to check the weather for, which shows you an animated icon of the time machine DeLorean from Back To The Future accompanied by a quirky little message that says, “traveling through time.” There is definitely a lot of attention to the smaller details here. If what you’re looking for is a simpler looking forecast app that feeds you all the relevant data you could ever need, yet manages to stay looking elegant and feel smooth, drop the $0.99 and check out Weather Timeline.
