Now its all well and good that the big releases from Samsung and Motorola are being released and available to pre-order. However, these are all rather big priced devices and you do need a few Bitcoins in your pocket to be able to buy most of them. So what about the other end of the spectrum? Devices that are more pocket friendly? Well Archos (remember them?) have today released two new budget smartphones from their Platinum range, the Platinum 50b and 45c. Both devices are equipped with a 1.3Ghz MediaTek MT6582 Quad-Core processor, both devices come with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. In terms of the differences let’s see what the two devices offer separately.
The 50b was actually announced just before IFA and comes with a 5” QHD screen with a 960 x 540 resolution. The 50b offers an 8MP rear camera as well as 2MP front shooter. In addition, the device comes with 1900mAh battery. In contrast the 45c is a slightly cheaper unit and as such comes with a slight decrease in terms of the specs. The first noticeable difference is the screen which on this device is a 4.5” IPS display with an 854 x 480 resolution. Similar to the 50c the 45c again offers a 2MP front camera, but the rear camera on this device is only 5MP. Again the battery is also slightly more limited on the 45c with a 1700mAH battery.
In terms of pricing both devices are extremely reasonable with the 45c going on sale for $99 while the larger of the two the 50b will come with a slight premium, priced at £119. Both devices offer dual-SIM support and will run on Android 4.4 (KitKat). If you are interested in a customization than both devices offer swappable back covers with the colors on offer including ‘deep black’, ‘metallic blue’ and ‘spicy pink’. So with all the Samsung and Motorola talk recently is there anyone out there interested in a much cheaper handset? How does the Archos latest offerings sound? With only $20 between the two devices would anyone want to buy the smaller and more limited 45c? Let us know what you think
