(China Daily) The Japanese romance film April, Come She Will, featuring stars Takeru Satoh and Masami Nagasawa, is poised to captivate Chinese audiences as it hit domestic theaters on May 18.
Recently, the film celebrated its premiere in Beijing, with the presence of scriptwriter Genki Kawamura and actor Satoh adding to the excitement.
Derived from Kawamura's 2016 novel of the same name, the movie narrates the tale of a psychiatrist on the brink of marrying his veterinarian fiancee. However, a letter from his college sweetheart, whom he deeply cherished a decade ago, triggers an unforeseen turn of events when his fiancee mysteriously vanishes.
Reflecting on the film's inception, Kawamura shared how his collaboration with Satoh on a previous project influenced his portrayal of the psychiatrist in April, Come She Will. Drawing from personal experiences, he also infused elements of his first love's passion for photography into the character of the college girlfriend during the creative process.
"Love, much like cherry blossoms, may be fleeting but exquisitely beautiful," Kawamura mused on his interpretation of romance. "Just as cherry blossoms bloom anew each year, love too has the potential for renewal. Hence, I orchestrated a reunion in the story's conclusion."
