Theme parks are not only enjoyable for children, but also for families and couples; everyone likes theme parks! It would crush you to look at your favourite theme park being closed down then abandoned.
For Perakians, one of their local theme parks, Movie Animation Park Studio (MAPS) located in Ipoh, closed down early last year. It was supposed to be temporary, but the Twitter account @viralperak has recently given us an update about the place. It saddens us to see what has happened to a place that used to be so full of potential!

According to the tweet, the place has been abandoned just like that and it will soon be a paranormal spot. (Well, we know how much netizens like those caught-on-cameras kind of videos.) Most netizens could also agree with us that the park was great; exciting rides, strategic place. It was such a waste that it had to shut down operations after opening for less than 3 years.
The news that circulated around social media regarding the closing was that the main attraction was cancelled. It was supposed to be a collaboration between the theme park and DreamWorks Animation. The licensing agreement was called off to enable the park to focus on it’s existing rides while trying to lower the entrance ticket fee. Now that it has closed down, the question on everyone’s mind is; “Will it end up like Mimaland?”
Netizens on Twitter shared their opinions on the current state of the park, and some shared their memories there. A man replied to the original tweet of @viralperak reminiscing back to 3 years ago when he organised a school field trip. He mentioned that the place was packed and most shops were still open for business.
Another user thinks that it’s such a shame that the park had to close down because it was a gorgeous place for pictures. In her tweet she mentioned, “I’ve only gotten the chance to go there once. That was the first and the last. I’ve thought about going back there because there were some rides that I didn’t get a chance to try, unfortunately it has closed down.”
While on the other hand, we could also see some netizens pitching ideas along with their opinions. “Rather than (setting up) an LRT station, how about upgrading the park? If there aren’t any good ideas, polls could be set up. Perakians are geniuses“, tweeted a user. And another user commented on the ticket fee, “so sad :( the place was so fun, but the (ticket fee) wasn’t affordable. Should come up with other initiatives.”
We’re not going to lie, we do feel like the Malaysian paranormal teams could find Jack and Sally celebrating Halloween on Christmas in the park one of these days if they went there; because it looks haunted and spooky. Get it? ;)
