When it comes to beauty pageants, everyone has a certain image in their mind. Tall, thin and fair. However, this year’s Miss Universe Thailand has successfully smashed the stereotypical beauty standards!
The winner of the pageant this year was 22-year-old Thai-Australian Anchilee Scott-Kemmis. She was crowned Miss Universe Thailand on 24th October. Warm, friendly and passionate, Anchilee has a larger than life personality, which fits well into her plus-size model body.
According to the pageant’s records, Anchilee is 183cm tall and weighs 71kg. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Sydney. After returning to Thailand, Anchilee became a plus-size fashion model. The newly crowned pageant winner isn’t shy about her body; she loves it, curves and all.
She has often spoken about the matter on Instagram. In one of her more notable posts, she discusses how each person is built differently and what’s really important is how they take care of their body. “I am here to advocate for new standards, our own standards that doesn’t exclude people or put them down if they don’t fit into them,” she wrote. “Pave your own way, make your own standard. Celebrate yourself. Loud. And. Proud.”
Anchilee carried the same confidence throughout the competition. Netizens were especially impressed with her during the bikini section when she fearlessly showed of her curves on stage. A quick peek at her past bikini photos amazed netizens. “The figure and beauty are all real,” netizens said, in awe of the 22-year-old.
Anchilee winning the competition is more than a personal achievement, she’s also cracked the slender beauty pageant stereotype. “Since participating in the contest, I have been proud to represent women,” she said to reporters after being crowned. “I am not worried about being bullied due to my figure. (…) I believe my willpower and sincerity won me the crown.”
Aside from winning the crown, the 22-year-old has also won ฿1,000,000, a car and a luxury apartment. Additionally, she has the honour of representing Thailand in Miss Universe 2021 in Israel in December.
We wish Anchilee all the best as she prepares for her next pageant and we look forward to seeing the same confidence and passion on stage again!
