Amazon Delays Its New World MMO In Order To Squash Bugs

Amazon has delayed the launch of its upcoming MMO titled New World. This is the fourth time that the game has been delayed to extend the amount of time for development. Though it looks like this could in fact be the final delay that Amazon has planned.

In a tweet this morning, the official New World account made an announcement addressing the game’s development. Among other things like its highly valued user support for the game throughout the closed beta.

Worth noting is that this is by far the shortest delay that the game has seen. Which is a bit of potentially uplifting insight to those looking forward to the release.

New World has been delayed until late September

Following the previous delay, Amazon was planning to release New World on August 31. That’s just a few short weeks away from now. But the delay announced this morning is pushing that release date back to late September. Specifically September 28.

The development team says this wasn’t an easy decision to make. However, it seems to value the launch of a quality game more than getting the game into people’s hands as soon as possible. A pitfall many a developer have had trouble with. Though hardly the first game to see huge issues due to a rushed launch, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 can be used as a cautionary tale – take your time.

Amazon obviously doesn’t want to make the same mistake and rush New World out to the public. Stating that the decision to push back the launch will give it a few extra weeks to “smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game.”

New World’s development team derived much feedback from players during the beta, and is using a lot of that make these improvements. During the beta, New World also became a highly popular game. Climbing the ranks of Steam’s most played list, while also becoming of the most watched games on Twitch.

According to the team, New World was collectively played for more than 25 million hours during its closed beta period.
