YouTube just recently announced a handful of new features to the platform that would seem familiar to those who use Twitch. These new YouTube features are the ability to clip videos, sub-only chat, and question polls. The company announced these changes over their Twitter.
The first of these new YouTube features is video clipping
Starting off this list is a feature that has become popular over on the Twitch side. When you have this enabled, viewers will be able to select certain sections of the video to share. The little scissors icon will appear right under the video. When clicked, the viewer will be able to select clips between 5 and 60 seconds in length.
This is great for highlighting certain moments in videos that stick out to you. It seems to be a more preferable option to sharing links to video chapters. When you click it, you will be prompted to select how long you want the clip to be and title it. After that, you can share the link for the clip to your social media platform of choice.
When you click on the link to a clip, you will be taken to the video itself, only, it will start where the clip starts. On the side of the screen, you will see the option to go to the full video. You can click that, or just scrub outside of the clip range.
If you don’t want to have this feature enabled, you can deactivate it in the YouTube Studio. If you do want this feature, then (in classic YouTube fashion) you have to cross a certain channel milestone, which is 1,000 followers.
Sub-only chats aim to help people moderate their chats
Keeping the chat clean is sometimes really hard, especially with more popular channels. This is why YouTube unveiled sub-only chats. With this, you can make it so that only people who are subscribed to your channel can comment.
A neat thing about this feature is the fact that you can choose how long a person needs to be subscribed to you before they can comment. You can choose if you want them to be subscribed for a couple of months or just a few minutes.
Questions polls will let you see what the audience wants
The last of these new YouTube features is the question poll option. With this, you will be able to ask questions for your audience members while you’re streaming. This could be good for people who want audience input on what they should play. This isn’t only for live streams, as you can put a poll for premiers.
While this seems fun, there are a few limitations that you would need to know. The polls can only have up to four options, they only last for 24 hours, they can only be seen during the event, and this feature is only available for YouTube on desktop.
