LineageOS 18.1 Now Available For Galaxy S10 & Galaxy Note 10 Series

LineageOS has been adding support for several new devices lately. The latest batch of additions brings LineageOS 18.1 to Samsung‘s Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series. In total, seven new Galaxy smartphone models are now capable of running this open-source Android-based operating system. These include the Galaxy S10, S10 5G, S10+, S10e, Galaxy Note 10, Note 10+, and Note 10+ 5G.

Spotted by a Redditor, only the Galaxy Note 10 (d1) installation packages and recovery downloads are available as of this writing. It can take weeks for the downloads to be available for all devices.

Moreover, this support is only for the Exynos-powered Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 models. You might be aware that Samsung offers its flagship models in two different variants around the world. Units in the US, China, and a few other markets get the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor while the company uses its own Exynos chip in most other regions.

This affects custom ROM development for the devices and that can be clearly seen in this instance. The Snapdragon 855-powered Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 phones will not be able to run LineageOS as yet. We will let you know if that changes down the line.

Several other Android smartphones have gained LineageOS support recently

LineageOS, which is a custom ROM version of Android, is the best way to keep your phone up-to-date with the latest Android version (if supported) even if the vendor no longer provides Android OS updates to it. Despite being a volunteer-based organization, the project has been quite active, regularly adding support for new devices.

Apart from the aforementioned seven Samsung models, a few devices from other brands have also gained LineageOS 18.1 support over the past six weeks. These include the Razer Phone 2, Xiaomi Mi 10T (aka Redmi K30S), Mi 10T Pro, and the Poco F2 Pro (aka Redmi K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom). The OnePlus 9 Pro and FairPhone 2 also received the LineageOS 18.1 support last month.

Overall, LineageOS 18.1 is now available to 134 devices. The Android 10-based LineageOS 17.1 is supported by a further 42 smartphone models. That’s impressive for a community-driven project.

You can find the full list of Lineage OS-supported devices here. If you want to flash LineageOS on your Android device, click on its name on that page to download the available builds (check back later if the installation packages and recovery are not available). Make sure to read and follow the installation instructions carefully, so as to avoid any problems due to missed steps.
