HyperX Pulsefire Haste Review: The Best Gaming Mouse For Speed Freaks

HyperX Pulsefire Haste 3

HyperX doesn’t need an introduction, but its Pulserfire Haste mouse might. Whether you just haven’t kept up on HyperX’s latest products or you simply missed that the Pulsefire Haste exists, this is a gaming mouse that fits perfectly in the hands of the gamer who wants something light, and fast.

While this isn’t going to instantly improve your flicks or your aim, it is going to help you become more accustomed to fast mouse movements while you play. Since it can glide across the mouse mat a little faster. And with practice, your skills should improve too. That isn’t to say that you need a mouse like this for your skills to improve. But it certainly doesn’t hurt, especially if you prefer a lightweight mouse.

And to be completely honest the Pulsefire Haste feels like it’s as lightweight as they come. To be fair, it’s been some time since I’ve played with a lightweight gaming mouse. My daily driver and go-to for many years now has been the Razer Naga, and I’ve been through four iterations of it. And that’s not exactly a lightweight gaming mouse.

That being said, there is a huge contrast in weight between these two devices. And there’s something to be said for that. It’s also the lightest mouse that HyperX offers. So how does the HyperX Pulsefire Haste stack up? Is it worth the $50? Let’s take a closer look.

The HyperX Pulsefire Haste feels like an extension of your hand

At 59 grams, the Pulsefire Haste is ultra light and because of that it feels like an extension of your hand. Compared to heavier gaming mice, which are more distinctly a tool you’re gripping while you play, the HyperX Pulsefire Haste almost fades into the background.

Not in a bad way either. While it did take me some getting used to due to the different shape and the lack of a 12-key layout on the left side by my thumb, once I did get used to it, everything became second nature.

I feel like this is an important factor. Because with it somewhat fading into the background it’s still maintaining the ability to do its job just as well. And oddly enough this sort of made me more aware of all the buttons. Which in turn resulted in me playing a little better in certain situations as I was able to react a little more quickly.

While I do love having all the buttons something like the Naga gives me, sometimes having that many buttons gets in the way. And you won’t have that issue at all with the HyperX Pulsefire Haste. All you have is a quality gaming mouse that’s helping you hit the mark.

While I can’t say that the mouse will feel this way for everyone, I think it may feel this way for a lot of people.

It’s a dust trap, right?

HyperX Pulsefire Haste 7

After looking at this mouse you’re probably wondering the same thing I was wondering when I saw it for the first time. Which was that this is probably going to be a massive dust trap.

I can confidently say that after using the mouse for weeks, dust was never really an issue. No more or less than it is for any other gaming mouse I’ve used. You might think it would be due to the hexagon design of the shell. As the open makeup allows for optimum airflow so your hand doesn’t get as sweaty during longer or more intense gaming sessions.

But, there was never really a lot of dust getting trapped in there. And if you’re taking care of your tech and cleaning it out every so often, dust will be even less of an issue. It does have an open hexagon design after all, so it’s extremely easy to take to an air can to it and blow it out.

What’s more is that HyperX used TTC Golden Micro dustproof switches. So even if dust does get inside more than you’d like, the switches have an anti-dust coating on them. Basically, don’t worry about dust. Unless you never clean anything at all and there’s dust on everything else you own, you’ll be fine.

The most satisfying click you’ll hear and feel this year

HyperX Pulsefire Haste 6

There’s just something about a really nice click in a gaming keyboard or mouse that amplifies the experience of using them. And the HyperX Pulsefire Haste has a REALLY satisfying click whenever you click any of the buttons. The only button that doesn’t feel this way is scroll wheel.

But everything else features a nice, solid click that I somehow still haven’t gotten over. Even after weeks of use it’s still super satisfying to hear and feel the click of each button being pressed.

A more functional or useful result of these clicks is so that you know without a shadow of a doubt that your clicks are registering. So you never have to question whether or not your actions are being relayed to the game. There will be no mistaking it with the switches that HyperX used in this mouse.

And as for longevity, the switches are rated for 60 million clicks which is a whole heck of a lot. And with no battery inside that will degrade over time and stop holding a charge, you should be able to use this mouse for years to come.

In this day and age when so many people are used to replacing certain things after a couple of years, often out of necessity, this is something you won’t have to replace for a while. And that makes it a really good deal at $50.

You get some free grip tape

This isn’t and shouldn’t be a main selling point. It is worth mentioning though because it’s a nice touch of added value. HyperX bundles grip tape with the mouse for free. For comparison, If I wanted grip tape for my Razer Naga Pro, which was $150, then I’ll need to pay $9.99 for Razer’s universal mouse grip tape.

With the HyperX Pulsefire Haste, you get mouse grip tape that’s designed for the shape of the mouse specifically and you get it at no cost. So while not the biggest thing, it’s a very cool, more subtle nod to the consumer. As if to say “thank you for purchasing this product from us.”

As an added value, this should just be considered a bonus for anyone who was considering this mouse for other reasons. And a nice little bonus it is. Now keep in mind that by using the grip tape, it is inevitably going to cover up some of those hexagon openings. Which will likely restrict the airflow a tad. But it’s a small price to pay for more added control. And you’re not getting rid of all the airflow.

Surprisingly, it’s compatible with PS4 and Xbox One

HyperX Pulsefire Haste 10

I won’t go and suggest that you use a gaming mouse on PS4 or Xbox One. Because I honestly don’t see the point. In many cases, people’s console setups are going to be in the living room, family room, den etc. So a keyboard and mouse setup isn’t really going to be a viable option for most people.

If however you have your console set up on a desk and you’re close enough to it, then you could easily plug the Pulsefire Haste into it and be close enough for the cable to reach and still have some room to move the mouse around freely.

While you may not use the Pulsefire Haste with a console, the fact that it’s designed to be compatible is just kind of a nice cherry on top. It’s there if you want it but you don’t have to use it. Worth noting too is that I can think of a few games where a mouse might actually work really well.

At the end of the day, the mouse being compatible with PS4 and Xbox One means you can use the same product for the PC that you would use with the console. If you prefer to play with a mouse. The thing to keep in mind is that many games probably don’t support mouse input. For the ones that do though, you won’t need to pick up a separate product. Because this work with both platforms.

Should I buy the HyperX Pulsefire Haste?

HyperX Pulsefire Haste 1

Not if you want something that has more mouse buttons, or maybe even some more advanced features. The Pulsefire Haste has no illusions of being a highly advanced gaming mouse packed to the gills with features.

What it is, and what HyperX intended, is a gaming mouse that is no frills, with an ultra light design that is meant for mainly one thing. Speed. Less weight from the materials keeping you down so you can move your hand around faster and hit those headshots quicker.

With little bonuses like the satisfying click of the buttons and the anti-dust coating on the switches. In fact anyone looking for a lightweight gaming mouse above all else, should definitely make haste and go buy this mouse as soon as possible. Because it’s fantastic.
