Android 12 Beta 3 Offers In-Between Fix For Issues With Wi-Fi Toggling

Android 12 Beta 3 is officially offering a kind of band-aid fix for issues earlier betas introduced with regard to Wi-Fi toggling. That’s according to recent reports highlighting the addition of a new option for turning off Wi-Fi quickly. Specifically spotted in the new “Internet” tile interface.

What’s the issue with toggling Wi-Fi on and off in Android 12 that this fixes?

Now, as noted above, the problem with toggling Wi-Fi on and off in Android 12 prior to this update was that users really couldn’t. Or at least not quickly. And that’s down to a change Android 12 is bringing to Quick Tiles.

In Android 11, users can simply swipe down on the notification shade twice to see a plethora of options for controlling various device features. Among those “Quick Tiles” is one that reads “Wi-Fi” and a tap on that will either open up or close out the Wi-Fi part of the system. Long-pressing that, conversely, opens up the Settings app to the Wi-Fi section.

The new OS altered that by introducing a new Internet tile and removing the older tile — among other changes. A tap on that opens up a new pane on the bottom of the UI. And that effectively just showed all available networks for getting connected. There wasn’t any way to turn Wi-Fi off completely in a single click. At least not without navigating all of the way out to the Settings menu.

Now, with the new Beta 3 update, the functionality has returned in a kind of ‘in-between’ state. Namely, users can now use the new “Turn off Wi-Fi” button in that pane to toggle Wi-Fi off.

This is an in-between fix but better than nothing.

With Android 12 slated to be finalized in the fall, users will undoubtedly appreciate this change. And Google could always find a way to make turning off Wi-Fi even quicker. If it alters this feature furtehr at all.

The two-tap action isn’t quite as quick as what was present in Android 11. But it’s going to be a lot better, for some users, than having to navigate all of the way into deep Settings. So the change is really nestled somewhere between where Android 11 is and where the initial changes in Android 12 were.
