Samsung Has Cancelled The Galaxy Z Flip Lite

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Lite won’t launch, it has been cancelled. This handset has been rumored for a long, long time now. We haven’t heard much about it for a while, but some info did appear now.

Ross Young, a well-known display analyst, has confirmed that the device has been cancelled. Mr. Young’s information is usually spot on, and chances are that’s the case this time around as well.

The Galaxy Z Flip Lite has been cancelled altogether

The Galaxy Z Flip Lite was supposed to be a cheaper variant of the original Galaxy Z Flip. Samsung was expected to cut corners, and include inferior specs to make it happen.

If you’re wondering why that won’t happen, well, the answer is… chip shortage. That’s not surprising at all. The Galaxy S21 FE will be late because of the chip shortage, and it has impacted many smartphone OEMs thus far.

It impacts the largest smartphone OEMs the most, it seems, as they have to push out large volumes of devices. In fact, the Galaxy S21 FE may only launch in the US and Europe because of the chip shortage.

Samsung is anticipating huge demand for the device, and is considering what is the best course of action at this point. The Galaxy S20 FE was very popular, and many people are waiting to upgrade to the S21 FE, especially considering the fact a new Note phone is out of the question.

A ‘Lite’ Samsung foldable may launch in the future, though

The Galaxy Z Flip Lite has seen a brutal fate because of the same issue. Samsung has decided to entirely scrap the phone because of the chip shortage. That does not exclude the possibility a new foldable ‘Lite’ phone will launch in the future. That goes for both the ‘Fold’ and ‘Flip’ variants.

The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are expected to be more affordable than their predecessors were at launch, so that’s something. Many foldables this year are expected to be more affordable than they were before.
