Latest OnePlus 9 Series Update Is Causing Bootloops

It seems like the latest OnePlus 9 series update is causing bootloops. We’re talking about the OxygenOS 11.2.6.6 update, which started rolling out for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro recently.

The latest OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 9 & 9 Pro seems to be causing bootloops

This information comes from HowToMen, a person behind that YouTube channel, and Artem Russakovskii of Android Police. In the case of HowToMen, it seems like the brother of a person behind that channel is having bootloop issues. His OnePlus 9 went to the bootloop craze post-update.

HowToMen noted that the update bricked the phone, while adding some pictures to show the issue. You can see those pictures below this paragraph. The error message shown reads “init_user0_failed”.

There is a way to fix the problem, it seems

Artem seems to have that same issue, but on his OnePlus 9 Pro. He did note that he managed to fix the issue by wiping cache from recovery. Until that point, the phone was bootlooping.

So, there seems to be a solution for it, at least in Artem’s case. Regular users would be completely lost, and needless to say, things like this should not happen when it comes to updates.

We do hope that OnePlus will fix this issue as soon as possible with a hotfix update. Our OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro units are still on OxygenOS 11.2.5.5, as the update did not arrive just yet.

At the time of writing this article, OnePlus did not officially address the issue. We’re sure that they’re aware of it at this point, and that the fix will be coming in the near future.

OnePlus did have some issues with updates in the past, but those problems are usually related to increased battery drain, and similar things. Bootloop issues are a serious problem and they basically render your phone useless.

If the update is available for your device, we’d advise you against installing it… for now

Do note that it’s possible this issue is affecting some users only. Just because you installed OxygenOS 11.2.6.6 doesn’t mean you’ll have the same problem. Still, if the update arrived for your device, we’d advise you against installing it, for now.
