Google has just sent out a new update to its Nest smart displays and Nest Wi-Fi devices. The new OTA will bring some useful and iteresting changes to the devices. This news was spotted by 9To5Google.
The Nest Smart Displays will gain more ‘preferred’ video conferencing patforms
Last November, the Nest Smart Displays gained the ability to be used for video conferencing. This was during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, so video conferencing was a much needed necessity. Since then, the platform has prioritized using Google Meet and Zoom.
Now, with this new update, Nest devices will also be compatible with Microsoft Teams, Slack, and GoToMeeting. The social distancing age is still going on as a lot of people and businesses are still forced to be separated. Having more platforms that the Nest devices can use will be very helpful to people who still have to use video conferencing on a daily basis.
The new M89 update will bring some new additions and improvements to Nest Wi-Fi
On the other side of the update, we see some useful improvements to Nest Wi-Fi. Firstly, there are the typical stability and reliability improvements that would come with an update. Nest Wi-Fi devices will also see improvements with mesh performance and better compatibility with internet protocol television network infrastructure. Nest Wi-Fi is now compatible with hub-free.
The Google Home app also got a new neat addition with the M89 update. When you are experiencing network issues, the Google Home feed will show you network insights. This means that it will not only tell you that your network is slow, but it will tell you why it’s slow.
There is a screenshot of the network insights telling a user why their connection is bad. It’s saying that it’s slow because of network congestion. This could be great for people who have trouble identifying what’s wrong with their connection. There’s no telling how many network scenarios Google will be able to give insight on.
