Google Is Discounting Stadia Controllers For Some Chromecast Owners

If you own a Chromecast with Google TV, then you may be in for a treat in the form of a discounted Stadia controller. According to a new report from 9To5Google, select Chromecast with Google TV owners are getting email offers to buy the Stadia controller at a lower price.

This doesn’t appear to be going out to everyone that owns the new Chromecast. Though that may be just due to the timing of when Google started sending these out. The promotion is likely part of Google’s launch of Stadia on the Chromecast with Google TV and Android TV devices.

Which officially goes live today. So if you own the new Chromecast, be on the lookout for one of those emails.

Chromecast owners can buy a Stadia controller for 50% off

The Stadia controllers aren’t exactly cheap. So any time Google tosses out a discount, it’s worth it to take advantage while you can. That is if you’re at all interested in playing games through Stadia.

The controllers normally retail for $69. So half off should put the new price squarely at $34.50. You’ll have the option to buy either of the three available colors. Which includes the Wasabi, Just Black, and Clearly White options.

You’ll also be required to use the link that comes in the email. As simply going to the Google Store and proceeding to buy a controller won’t afford you the promotional pricing. Trust us. We tried.

Also worth keeping in mind is that you don’t need a Stadia controller to play games through the Chromecast with Google TV. When Google announced that the app was finally coming, it confirmed that you could play using other controller types. Such as the new Xbox wireless controller.

You need to redeem the offer by July 30

If you’re interested in this promotion and you already received or anticipate receiving one of the promotional emails, buy the controller as soon as you can.

The offer will only be available for a very short window of time. A little over one month, as the offer will expire on July 20 at 11:59PM GMT, or while supplies last. Google probably isn’t going to run out of Stadia controller stock, so just keep your eye on the date and time.
