Square Enix had a lot to show off at its E3 showcase on June 13 and a new Hitman Sniper game called Hitman Sniper: The Shadows was one of the reveals. This will be a new game in the Hitman Sniper series, and the second game with that name overall.
The first Hitman Sniper has been available for Android and iOS for more than a few years now. And it features the franchise’s familiar character, Agent 47. Like every other game you’re a contract killer and your job is to eliminate your targets.
Unlike the other Hitman games though, you aren’t using any means necessary to assassinate them. As the name suggests, you’ll be sniping your targets while trying not to be spotted. Hitman Sniper: The Shadows works in very much the same way. Except you won’t be playing Agent 47 in this game, as he’s gone missing. Instead you play a multitude of new characters, with five playable options in all.
Hitman Sniper: The Shadows feature five new playable characters
Since Agent 47 isn’t here to take on contracts, you’ll have five new assassins to choose from in this upcoming title. Each assassin will also have its own unique advantages and disadvantages.
While you can likely get the jobs done with any of them, some might be more well-suited for specific contracts. Having said that it’s not clear if you’ll be able to choose any assassin you want at any time. And while the game’s landing page is up it alludes to no such detail about the gameplay.
Each assassin will also carry a different type of rifle. So overall you’ll have a little bit of variety when it comes to the gameplay style. For example, Stone will use explosive rounds. While Soji’s special skill is gas cloud rounds.
Hitman Sniper: The Shadows will also feature a multiplayer mode where you can compete against other assassins. Although how in-depth or competitive this mode will be is also unclear.
Square Enix hasn’t mentioned a release date for the game yet. And the landing page lists its launch as coming soon to both Android and iOS devices. The trailer does confirm that it’s coming in 2021. So this could be a Summer release.
