Ah, ghosting. It’s the dating phenomenon that happens when people are too big of cowards to actually end things with the people they’ve been seeing, so they choose to just … disappear instead.
Ghosters are idiots. If you’ve ever been ghosted, know that you’re not alone.
There’s a lot more I could say about ghosting, but one thing interests me the most: What was the last text you sent to someone before he or she ghosted you? What were the last words you chose to utter before someone decided to disappear from your life forever?
A while back, I wrote an article on this topic. Eight people were brave enough to share their hilarious, heartbreaking screenshots documenting the final conversation with each of their dating ghosts. The article resonated with readers who were also eager to share their own ghosting experiences.
Now, every week or so, I will share with you a tall tale of a time someone was ghosted, with an accompanying screenshot and story. I present to you my new column: Boom, Ghosted.
Today we have Alexis* who was ghosted by the guy who took her virginity. Yes, that’s right. You read it correctly. This guy might actually be the living worst. But that’s just my opinion.
Here’s the story from Alexis’s point of view:
I met this guy at a bar through some mutual friends. It was one of those moments where you meet someone and wonder where they’ve been all your lives. I gave him my number and he asked me out a week after. I genuinely thought we had good chemistry and a really good connection.
On our first date alone, he’d already made a bucket list of things for both of us to do. But two weeks and three dates later, he started being distant. I figured he was busy with a big test he was taking, so I backed off for a bit.
When I reached out again, he had said he wanted to hang out after he got off working nights. I reached out to him again two weeks later, until finally, he ghosted me and stopped responding all together.
I’m not sure if it was because of stress from work, if he found out I dated one of his friends in the past, if he was just not ready to move on after recently breaking up with his ex or if he just thought Zac Brown Band was lame. Either way, it was still hard to not have heard from him, especially since he was the one I lost my virginity to.
I honestly do not regret losing my virginity to him, since he was so good to me at that moment … but in retrospect, I can’t help but wonder why the guy who took my virginity stopped talking to me.
