Ishin Japanese Dining in Old Klang Road is well known for its high quality Japanese and Kaiseki style cuisines.
We felt like we were being transported to Japan the moment we step through Ishin’s doorway. There is an oval sushi counter in the middle of the space, with a huge painting of Mount Fuji as backdrop. Just like Japan, bar counter seat is the best place to spot all the cooking action and to have face-to-face interaction with the chefs.
Private rooms and Tatami seating are also available for private dining events. The best part is Ishin Japanese Dining provides free valet parking to all their guests. Very considerate.
The menu came loaded inside a tablet, giving us a very easy and interactive experience when browsing through the menu.
We were here for a Valentine’s Day menu (RM 268 NETT per couple) review session. The menu is specially crafted just for Valentine’s Day, hence there are a bit of Western elements here and there to create that romantic and sensational experience.
Pan Fried Golden Pear, Duck Liver with topping Avurga Caviar Served in Red Wine Light Sauce
The duck liver was decadently rich with a distinct sweetness coming from the pan fried golden pear. What a perfect combination!
Japanese Style Borscht Soup with Baby Abalone
Unfortunately, this is my least favourite course as the baby abalone was too chewy and the soup was not to my likings. To be fair, the pumpkin, potatoes and carrot cubes were well cooked and tasted sweet.
New Style Sashimi (maguro, salmon, butter fish, kampachi, ebi and mixed fruits)
The rubic cube sashimi is definitely a work of art.
I love the combination of the crunchy and refreshing fruits together with those delectable cut of the freshest sashimis. So refreshing.
Hokkaido Scallop
Love the presentation so much! The scallop had a very succulent and sophisticated mildly-sweet flavor and went really well with the toppings and sides.
Wagyu Beef Saikoro Steak
The wage beef was cooked perfectly – with a crispy crust and beneath the crust is the most tender, juicy, smoky meat.
Fried Cha Soba with King Crab Topping Sujiko
It is a simple dish with great flavours. I love to end a wholesome Japanese meal with carbs.
Our sweet ending came in the form of a giant pavlova “burger” with cream and fruits. It was light and sweet, and since it’s fruity, it feels a lot “healthier” than other desserts.
