We’ve all been there, someone wants your phone number but you don’t want to give it to them. Or, you run your own business and don’t want to give out your personal number. We’ve had ways around that with the likes of Google Voice, but now there’s another option in Sideline. With Sideline you can get a second phone number for your smartphone that uses your own area code. Sideline says that they are the go-to phone solution for small businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs. Essentially what you’re getting here is a way to have two numbers on one smartphone. It works pretty similar to Google Voice.
As mentioned, you are able to get a free phone number that is in your area code. You get free talk and text with the line, and it allows you to call or text anyone. The person who you talk or text won’t even know that this is a Sideline number and not a traditional phone number, because it works so seamlessly. As far as carrier reliability goes, Sideline’s numbers work with your carrier network. So you’ll get the same service you would with your normal phone number. Sideline uses your existing minutes – which most of us have unlimited anyways – so you don’t need to worry about it using up your data. With Sideline you also get separate caller IDs, notifications and even ringtones. This way you can see who exactly is calling you, and which number they are calling. To make a call, all you need to do is open up Sideline and place your call.
With Sideline, you’re able to keep your private or personal number to yourself and only give it out to family and such. Sideline notes that this second number can also be a disposable or temporary number. Sideline includes voicemail forwarding and auto-reply. So you can choose to silence Sideline on the weekends or holidays and send callers directly to your voicemail. You can also set up auto-reply text replies. Sideline offers a pro upgrade which comes in at $2.99/month and removes ads and also enables WiFi calling. It also prevents your number from expiring. If you haven’t used your number in 30 days they will reclaim that number, however if you pay for Sideline Pro, they will leave it as is.
Sideline is available on the Google Play Store today for free, there is one in-app purchase which is the Sideline Pro upgrade we detailed above.
