iPhone 6S and 6S Plus owners, it’s not your imagination – your device’s battery meter indeed may be broken.
Users of Apple’s latest flagship smartphone have been complaining that the battery percentage indicator stops working, which means they don’t know how much juice is left in their latest charge. The company has finally posted a support notice acknowledging this, and the cause is kinda weird.
Apparently, it has to do with time. Specifically, users are seeing this if they disable the automatic setting of date and time (though I have no idea why you’d want to do this), or if they switch time zones. Because of the latter condition, it’s hitting frequent travelers the hardest.
Apple says a fix is in the works, but here’s what the company recommends in the meantime:
- Restart your iPhone.
- Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that Set Automatically is turned on. Learn more about the date and time on your device.
If you think your iPhone 6S or 6S Plus battery meter has quit updating but you don’t manually set your date and time and you’re not crossing time zones, Apple wants you to contact tech support.
If you own one of these phones, have you seen this issue? And if you have automatic date/time setting turned off, for heaven’s sake, why?
