The Xperia M5 was Sony’s most powerful mid-ranger when it was announced last August. Unfortunately for some of those that were eyeing up the device, Sony only released the Xperia M5 in selected emerging market regions. That will shortly change as Sony is expected to release the Xperia M5 across most European countries from next month.
Sony Mobile Poland and Netherlands have already confirmed that the Xperia M5 will arrive from the middle of February, with other key European regions also expected to announce availability in due course. Pricing for the handset has not been revealed, but let’s hope Sony will price it competitively as it still has a great spec-sheet and, with a 5-inch display, is a good all-rounder for most people.
The Sony Xperia M5 has a 5-inch 1080p IPS display, armed with the MediaTek Helio X10 chipset with 2GHz octa-core processor and IMG Rogue G6200 GPU, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage (9.1GB usable) and comes with a ‘two-day’ 2600mAh battery capacity.
One of its standout features is the rear camera with 21.5MP Exmor RS sensor and ISO 3200 with 0.25-second Hybrid Autofocus that utilises Phase detection AF (PDAF) for faster shutter speed response and Contrast detection AF for added precision. It also has a 13MP Exmor RS front-facing camera capable of integrated autofocus and Full HD video.
Other features include IP65/IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, capless USB charging, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) and stainless steel corners. The Xperia M5 has dimensions of 145 x 72 x 7.6 mm and weighs 142.5 grams.
