HTC Aims To Take On The iPhone

HTC is said to announce a new flagship device tomorrow. Rumored to be called the HTC One A9, this device will determine the future of the company. Although HTC makes very attractive Android handsets, the Taiwanese company has been struggling to make sales. With the launch of the HTC One M9 earlier this year, the company suffered poor sales and quarterly loss resulting in a 15 percent cut in their workforce.

According to the Central News Agency (CNA), HTC chairwoman Cher Wang said that their upcoming device will be a good alternative to Apple’s iPhone. While the specs of the HTC One A9 suggest a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor and 4GB of RAM, leaked photos of the device surfaced online show a similar design to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Some could argue that the iPhone 6 design is similar to the HTC One M7, but surely there will mostly be a debate on who copied who after the launch of this device. HTC has confirmed that the A9 will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Sense 7 out of the box.

HTC joins Windows and Blackberry who are also suffering in the mobile market. Both Microsoft and Blackberry are relying on Android to boost sales. The problem with Windows Phones is the lack of apps, Microsoft announced earlier this year that developers will soon be able to port Android apps to Windows 10 devices. This is nothing new, Blackberry allows Android apps to run on Blackberry OS 10, but that was not enough to save the company. For the first time, Blackberry is ditching its own operating system for its new phone, the Blackberry Priv, to run Android. Similar to HTC, the Blackberry Priv is the company’s last push for a better future in the mobile market.

In the past years, HTC has made some great hardware and software improvements to the One series. But a great phone is not enough for the company to get back on their feets. HTC will have to try something bold to sway customers to buy their product. And if HTC thinks they can go head on with the iPhone then there may be something to surprise us at tomorrow’s event. We will keep you updated with the launch of the anticipated HTC One A9.
