Skylake Gaming Desktop Available for Purchase at HP

Feels like every time we turn around Intel’s releasing a new processor architecture. This fall marks the debut of the latest. Dubbed “Skylake”, the successor to the Broadwell architecture offers the holy grail of better CPU and GPU performance while reducing power consumption.

So if you’ve held off on purchasing a new power use or gaming PC thinking, “Well, they’ll just come out with a new processor right after I buy, anyway,” this is arguably your best moment to buy. HP steps up to the plate with two stellar values.

First on the Skylake-powered HP docket is the Envy 750se. You’re getting a great productivity PC to start with, but if you want to unlock its true potential, you can add a few upgrades in at HP and get a high end gaming machine for just a few bucks more.

  • HP Envy 750se — $784.99 after coupon (list $899.99)
  • At Checkout Use Code: 15LESS75
  • Core i7-6700 (Skylake) Processor
  • 16GB RAM
  • 2TB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
  • GeForce GTX 745 Graphics Card
  • Windows 7 Pro

Even if you don’t touch the HP Envy 750se, you’ll get a pretty decent productivity desktop, but you’re still not utilizing the full potential of the Skylake chip. It’s probably better to upgrade to a full on gaming rig at HP, and considering the 30% coupon running this Labor Day weekend, the power boosts you’ll get will only cost you $90 more!

Recommended Upgrades for the 750se:

  • Core i7-6700K (Skylake) Processor
  • 4GB GeForce GTX 970 GPU
  • 500W Power Supply (required for the GTX 970)
  • At Checkout Use Code: LDS2015
  • Total after coupon: $874.99 (list $1,250)

The huge savings you get on the HP Envy 750se from this weekend’s 30% off coupon are a no brainer hint to upgrade. You’ll basically get a desktop capable of running modern video games at high end settings for under the coveted $1,000 point. It’s hard to do that building your own custom rig from scratch, and here you’ll be able to do it for less. Also available is an HP Envy 750se with Windows 10, but be cautious – upgrading to the same recommended specs and applying the same 30% off coupon will cost $895.29 (about $20 more).

HP’s also offering a configuration of HP’s Phoenix with the same Core i7 Skylake processor. The Phoenix desktop lineup is a made-for-gaming machine with better built in cooling. That said, the little improvements in the Phoenix line will cost a bit more.

If you’re familiar with the specs at all, you might think the HP Envy Phoenix 860st is powerful in some respects but not enough to run video games at high settings. Why settle for something underpowered? Put up a little more cash and get something that’ll run modern video games like a champ.

Recommended Upgrades for the 860st:

  • Core i7-6700K (Skylake) Processor
  • 4GB GeForce GTX 970 GPU
  • Total after coupon: $1,483.99 (list $2,120)

The HP Envy Phoenix 860st should be upgraded to reach its full potential, and it’s very simple to do at HP after you hit “Customize and Buy”. Considering the liquid cooling and other improved components on the 860st, this might be the choice pick for a gaming desktop between the two.

Regardless of whether the two models and available improvements sway you to the new processor platform just yet, we’ll certainly see a slew of new Skylake-powered configs hitting the market soon, with coupons and instant discounts not far behind.
