Doogee Unveil New F5 Android Smartphone

Doogee F5 1

Doogee wrote to gizChina earlier this week to explain how smartphone manufacturers need to stop building and selling smartphones that copy the iPhone. The reference for this is the slab of metal and glass with rounded corners. Instead, manufacturers should be trying to do their own thing and luckily Doogee have a suitable product: the fresh, new, un-iPhone like F5, which features non-rounded corners (square to the rest of us). However, there’s another way that the Doogee F5 is very unlike any iPhone model: the device will go on sale for just $149.99. However, as you can see from the headline image above and the gallery below, the Doogee F5 does not look like an iPhone. It has a hint of Sony Xperia S about it, or perhaps some of the HTC Windows Phone devices from 2012.

Under the skin, the Doogee F5 is very much as expected from a Chinese manufacturer. The screen is a FHD, full high definition, 1080p (so that’s 1,920 by 1,080 pixel resolution) and is 5.5-inch in size. This gives the handset a pixel density of 401ppi and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. There’s an eight core MediaTek MT6753 System-on-Chip under the screen paired up with 3 GB of RAM for smooth multitasking. The MT6753 contains eight ARM Cortex-A53 application cores and the ARM Mali-720 GPU; it’s a reasonably modern 64-bit processor designed for higher mid-range devices. Around the back, there’s a Samsung 13MP camera complete with a dual color flash. On the front, Doogee have given customers a 5MP front facing camera for selfies and video calling. Everything is kept alive by a 3,000 mAh internal rechargeable battery complete with 5V2A fast charging, which brings the promise of putting the device up to 70% battery in thirty minutes. There’s also a 360-degree fingerprint scanner on the back of the device with the ability to control how the device unlocks: it takes half a second to register and unlock the device, but should the customer keep his or her finger on the device for a second and a half, it will open the “recently used” view instead. Doogee’s custom Android software interface allows up to five individuals’ fingerprints to be recorded by the device to make switching users a simple and easy process.

The Doogee has a few other tricks up its sleeve too. The outer frame is constructed from liquid metal, which Doogee claim is more resistant to nicks, scuffs and scratches than other materials. Presumably, Doogee continue to be un-iPhone as the F5 will not bend, either. The device will comes in three different models for worldwide 4G LTE connectivity, covering thirteen bands. Finally, at the moment we do not have an exact release date other than the F5 is coming in September, which starts in just a few days.
