iCracked Wants You To Fix Your iPhone’s Cracked Screen Yourself

For decades, Apple has pursued a strategy known to nerds as “closed architecture.” It makes the hardware, it makes the software, and it doesn’t want you to open it up and fiddle with it, on any level. Which is fine in some cases, but a bit of problem when, say, your iPhone has a cracked screen and you have to lose it for a week to get it fixed. iCracked sells a kit that solves the problem.

Screening Room

We all know the pain of a broken phone screen, but iCracked has a rather complete solution to the problem. Designed for the iPhone 6, the repair kit ships with a replacement screen, custom screwdrivers, adhesives, a spudger, and all the other stuff you’ll need to get your screen fixed. It also comes with free access to video tutorials to get your screen replaced.

They even have fingerprint protection built into the screen, and it ships with a cleaning cloth to get it squared away.

Granted, at $120, the repair kit is not cheap, and some people would rather not try and fix a $700 phone themselves. But at the same time, it will take an hour and it’s not actually that complex a fix. Besides, knowing how the electronics you buy work is a valuable skill, and can even impress people who don’t know what a spudger is. And who doesn’t want a spudger?
