VAIO, a well known subsidiary brand that had parted ways with Sony Corporation, is now prepared to enter the mobile industry business as they launch their first smartphone called VAIO phone in Japan recently.
Being a newcomer of the mobile market, VAIO took the cautious approach to release a mid range device instead of a high-end device in order to test the market response towards their brand.
The VAIO phone offers a 5 inch 720p IPS panel that is powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quad Core processor. It also comes with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable storage, 2.500 mAh capacity battery, 13 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera and it runs Android 5.0 Lollipop natively with VAIO custom ROM.
Based on its exterior appearance, many consumers in Japan would have thought it is a Panasonic Eluga U2 as both of them do look very identical. International buyers might mistaken it as the LG Nexus 4 as its overall design language is quite similar to the latter.
VAIO phone will be available at JPY51,000 ( about RM 1,550) in Japan which we think it is a little overpriced considering its mediocre specs.
