Acer’s Chromebook 15 which they announced back at CES in January, is finally available. It’s the first 15-inch Chromebook that’s been made available. The Chromebook 15 is available in both 2GB and 4GB of RAM models as well as 16GB of SSD or 32GB of SSD models. The models range between $250 and $350. Not a bad price for this Chromebook at all.
All three of the variants do feature a Full HD IPS display, instead of the typical 1366×768 resolution display. We also have an anti-glare coating on these displays. Which is a pretty big deal. Acer has also tossed in the Intel Celeron Dual-Core 3205U 1.5 GHz Processor. There is the Intel Core i5 model, however that won’t be available for a bit longer, likely late April. Acer states that they still get about 9 hours of battery life out of the Chromebook 15.
We have upward-facing speakers on the front of the Chromebook 15 which make for some pretty amazing sound from a Chromebook. While it is a 15-inch laptop, essentially, it is still pretty light, coming in at about 4.85 pounds. Acer has also put in 802.11 AC WiFi network connectivity, using MIMO technology. So you’ll be able to get some pretty decent WiFi speeds.
With this Chromebook, Acer is also giving out 100GB of Google Drive access for 2 years, along with 10 free sessions of GoGo Inflight internet and finally two months of free Google Play Music All Access. Now this is normal on most Chromebooks, but still a nice perk for picking up a Chromebook.
Early reviews of the Acer Chromebook 15 have been pretty positive. It’s also great to see Acer working with other screen sizes. Now they have 11.6-inch, 13.3-inch and 15-inch offerings all at different price points as well.
It’s important that we point out that these Chromebooks are essentially just running Google Chrome. So if you need Adobe Lightroom, or want to play games on it, a Chromebook isn’t right for you. However, if everything you do on your laptop can be done in Chrome, then a Chromebook is perfect. You can pick up the Chromebook 15 from the widgets down below.
