Tablet Shipments Are Expected To Decline 11.8% This Year, Manufacturers Cut Back On Orders

AH Samsung Galaxy Note 3 12.2 Tablet Nexus 10 7 tablets 1.1

The first Galaxy Note was announced by Samsung back in 2011, at that time, the 5.3-inch display was huge and very few people expected that the Note will be such a huge success. As you all know, the Galaxy Note line is one of the most successful smartphone lines today and Samsung is very proud of it. Phablets have become a thing very quickly after the launch of the Galaxy Note and a 5.3-inch displays are considered standard today, we’re seeing quite a few 6-inch phablets out in the market nowadays and people are already used to such big devices. Even Google has released a 6-inch device a couple of months ago, the Nexus 6.

Considering all this, it was to be expected for tablet sales to go down. If you already own a phablet device with a huge screen, the tablet becomes less of a priority, at least for some people. It seems like tablet manufacturers are expecting even less demand for tablets this year. Companies which manufacture a lot of tablets, like Samsung, for example, have reduced their orders with the supply chain for tablet parts. Bringing Apple into the equation, a well-known Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, said recently that he expects shipments of the Apple iPad to decline 30% in 2015, mainly because Apple introduced the iPhone 6 Plus which features a 5.5-inch panel.

The supply chain in China is prepared for the decline in tablet shipments and has its prices in order to attract manufacturers. According to the latest report, tablet shipments will decline 11.8% this year to 221.4 million units. That very same report says that tablet shipments will continue do decline until 2016, when they’ll hit the all time a low, a bottom if you will. This is quite an interesting analysis, that’s for sure. Did you expect this to happen following so many phablets being pushed to the market, or did you think that tablet shipments will rise this year? Speaking of which, do you own a tablet, if not, do you intend to purchase one in the future? Let us know what you think in the comments, we’d love to hear from you, as always.
