Samsung, today, announced a new line of battery packs that they are selling. These have Animals painted on them, I actually have the Golden Monkey edition which Samsung gave to everyone that attended their Unpacked event in Barcelona earlier this month. These battery packs are available in 8,400mAh and 11,300mAH models. The Lesser Panda and Fennec Fox are the 8,400mAh battery packs and the golden monkey and Giant Panda are the 11,300mAh battery packs.
“As consumers spend more time on their devices, they are demanding batteries with more capacity,” said Byeongju Kim, Vice President and Applicative Product Biz Group Leader, Samsung Electronics. “Our new battery packs will meet the needs of our customers and will simultaneously raise awareness about a critical issue.”
These battery packs have one USB port as well as a micro USB port to charge them. There is also a micro USB cord embedded into the battery pack, so you won’t have to worry about finding a cord to plug in your phone. Samsung is also using a 4 LED system to show you how much battery life you have on your battery pack. As far as input goes its 5.0V, 2.0A, and output is 5.0V and max of 2.0A. It is a rather thick battery pack, but it does have quite a bit of power inside to keep your devices going. It’s a great way to change up the “boring” battery packs that we see. Typically they are in black or white. At least Samsung has put some endangered animals on theirs.
You can also download the “Charge the Life” App from the Play Store and watch your endangered animal get charged up – it’s a pretty cool animation – from your phone. Which is pretty cool, but I’m not sure it’s a necessary app. Now if it worked like Motorola’s Micro Power Pack does, where you can locate your phone with the battery pack and vice versa, that’d be one thing.
Samsung hasn’t stated when these will be available, but I’m willing to bet they’ll be available around the time that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices are made available.
