It seems that users of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 are having a bit of trouble with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update that was being seeded via Over The Air (OTA) updates in Norway. Updates to a new operating system are never a smooth transition. There is usually a hiccup or two during the seeding of new versions of Android or even during normal updates. However, it would appear that Samsung in Norway hit more than just a small hiccup in their updates. This has forced the local Samsung office to place the OTA updates on hold until the situation could be resolved.
It would seem that some users are experiencing major issues with regards to some software applications. Of the more notable issues, there has seem to have been issues with certain applications freezing randomly or causing the phone to become unusable altogether. These random freezes include the default phone and contact applications, which as you can imagine would cause anyone issues. But the problems do not end there. The alarm application is also experiencing crash issues. This problem has some interesting issues. Try explaining that one to your boss when you show up late for work. There has also been reports that the devices are also running slow and not performing to standards.
For its part, Samsung Norway halted the OTA update and has said that they will be working around the clock to make appropriate fixes to the update issues. Samsung Norway issued a statement saying “We are aware of the issues some users are experiencing after installing the update Android 5.0 Lollipop and now has stopped the current version. We work full time with a new update that contains solutions to the problems that have been reported to us, including a new solution for silent mode. We hope to send out the update shortly, and will keep you updates on Facebook.” There was no mention of a time frame for when we can expect to see this update along with its silent mode addition. It is nice to see that Samsung Norway has been proactive in its approach to this issue and they seem to be making a good faith effort to correct the problem so that customers can receive the proper update to their devices.
