Facebook on Wednesday will kick off a two-day conference, aimed at collaborating with thousands of developers on new features for its social network and apps.

The event, held at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, will delve into a variety of topics including video, virtual reality and Facebook’s popular Messenger app. CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be the keynote speaker at noon CDT Wednesday.

Facebook’s sales are based on targeted advertising toward its users. If the company can offer more reasons for people to stay on the social network by working with developers to create more features, it could boost ad sales, analysts said.

“The more they can keep you engaged and locked in and consuming the ads, the more money they are going to make,” said Rob Enderle, with advisory services firm Enderle Group.

There has already been speculation about how Facebook plans to grow its business. Some media outlets have speculated whether Facebook will open its Messenger app to developers, while others say the company is working with news outlets like BuzzFeed on new ways to publish stories within the social network. Last year, roughly 2,500 people attended the conference.
