Despite Google Glass exiting the Explorer program, we’re still continuing to hear about its forward momentum, as we should be since Google has ever intention of keeping things going. Something that was made apparent by the leadership change to Tony Fadell, and with recent news about Google taking Glass and finding it a new focus with the enterprise sector. While we still don’t know for sure whether or not Google will place almost all emphasis on enterprise in the future, it’s certain that Google is pushing things forward and has plans in the works for new Google Glass development.
Just noticed this morning by an individual named David Carr, Google has posted a ton of job openings for Google Glass engineers on LinkedIn. With new leadership, Google Glass is already moving in a new direction, and now they apparently need some new lifeblood to help carry out the tasks being laid out ahead. Most of the job openings are specifically for software engineers, but there are a few other areas Google is looking for. One prototype engineer, one lead engineer, and one hardware test and validation engineer. A few of the engineer postings are also listed as “enterprise” engineers, which suggests again that Google is indeed looking to focus more on enterprise with their wearable glasses.
While opening up positions for new hires onto the Google Glass project is proof of the Glass Project having what seems like plenty of life left in it, what it doesn’t do is really explain in detail what Google’s plans are. It’s clear that Google wants to take Glass to corporate clients, as it seems to have thrived in this area, and that’s easily understandable since businesses have been making good use of Glass since the Explorer program opened up. What we’re still waiting and eager to learn about is what Google has plans for in regards to a consumer based Google Glass device. That kind of information could still be months away, but for now those who find Google Glass intriguing and hope that the project continues to live on, can rest assured that Google Glass is looking up with renewed life.
